Statement
I was in my early teens when I discovered Albrecht Durer’s “The Great Piece of Turf” and it has been a source of inspiration ever since. I am fascinated by how things can be both simple and complex at the same time; twigs and grasses woven together to form a nest, yarn twisted and knotted to create lace, connections developed between scraps of paper and paint that become a collage. I love the give and take between the calm focused meditation of a silverpoint drawing and the excitement and experimentation of building a collage.
I feel compelled draw things which show their age; the remnants of a past life. It is very fulfilling when I can take something unusual or past its prime and through careful observation and skill turn it into a piece of art. Sharing my fascination with the beauty of what lies beneath the surface and giving things a new life through my art is such a pleasure.
